Cesar Bresgen Life

 

Cesar Bresgen, b. Florence 16.10.1913, d. Salzburg 7.4.1988, a much admired educationalist and composer of youth music.

Bresgen studied composition in Munich from 1930 to 1936, and later attended composition seminars with Hindemith in 1947 and 1950.

Long associated with the Mozarteum, Salzburg, he was a skilled improviser and fluent composer of "Gebrauchsmusik".

Strongly influenced by folksong and folkdance, he used its strong, simple melodies to excellent effect in a number of successful stage works for young people and professional performers.
