Alfredo Casella Life

Alfredo Casella was an Italian composer, organizer, pianist and conductor.

He was the most influential figure in Italian music between the two world wars.

He became professor of piano at the Liceo of Santa Cecilia, Rome, 1915, and he began to introduce the music of Ravel, Strawinsky and others to the Italian public.

He founded the Societą Italiana di Musica Moderna, and in the 1930s he became a leading light in the Venice Festival of Contemporary Music.

Alfredo Casella Works

Composition was only one of Casella's many activities, but his achievement in this sphere was notable: he wrote Stage Works (La giara, La donna serpente, La rosa del sogno, etc.), orchestral music (Symphonies), concertos (for piano, for violin), vocal (Notte di maggio, Canti sacri, Missa solemnis) and chamber music.
