The French composer Emmanuel Chabrier was originally employed in the Ministry of the Interior in Paris, but in 1880 he abandoned his bureaucratic career to dedicate himself entirely to music. His compositions include some colourful orchestral compositions and piano music that had a marked influence on subsequent generations of French composers including Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc. |
| Chabrier's Spanish rhapsody Espaņa is perhaps his best known piece. Also popular are his Joyeuse marche and Suite pastorale, an arrangement of some of his own piano pieces. The ten Pičces pittoresques, some of which were orchestrated by Chabrier in his Suite pastorale, are inventive in harmony and melody and attractive in form. They range from a simple landscape, Paysage, to a Menuet pompeux and a final Scherzo-valse. MIDI FILE - Feuillet d'album, for piano (1'52'')
