French organist, composer and teacher; both of his grandfathers were organists and choirmasters, the mother was a pianist and cellist, the father an organist. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, and won the Prix de Rome in 1914. He undertook to learn all of J.S. Bach's organ works, and in 1920 he gave a complete performance at the Conservatoire: this was the first time that such a performance had been given. Duprč's very individual compositional style has a tonal basis, with a more or less polytonal or chromatic superstructure. MIDI FILE - Prelude No.1 for organ (2'59'') Messiaen was his pupil.
