| Hailed as the father of Romanian national music, Enescu was an accomplished violinist and remarkable composer. He studied in Vienna and at the Paris Conservatoire where he was a pupil of Marsick, and of Fauré and Massenet for composition. He contributed significantly to the development of music in his own country. His violin pupils include Grumiaux, Ferras, Gitlis and Menuhin.
|
Although much that he wrote may be of greater musical significance, Enescu's most popular composition is the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1. |
