Jakob Froberger Life


Fellow student of countryman Kerll under the Italian master, Frescobaldi, Froberger served as court organist in Vienna intermittently in 1637, 1641-1645, and 1653-1657.

Known primarily as a keyboard virtuoso, Froberger toured throughout Europe.

In addition to composing the usual pieces for organ and harpsichord (partitas, ricercars, canzonas, fantasias, capriccios, fugues and toccatas), Froberger developed a new genre, the harpsichord suite.
