| He studied with Marchesi and Mattei in Bologna, later in Venice. His first opera was unperformed, but his second was prod. in Milan in 1813; he composed 90 in all, mostly in the Rossini comic manner, although Saffo (1840) was more serious. Also wrote quantities of church music,
6 string quartets.,
and a Dante Symphony; he founded a
music school at Viareggio, moving
to Lucca. |
