Michel Angelo Rossi Life

Rossi was an Italian composer, violinist and organist; he was one of the leading 17th-century Italian composer of keyboard music.

1624 he had moved to Rome and become a musician in the service of Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia; he first came under the influence of Frescobaldi, who became his teacher and friend.

Returning to Rome in 1630, Rossi moved into the circles of the Barberini family; in 1638 he travelled north: his activities included service for the Este family at Modena and composition of operas for the Sforza family at Ferrara.
