| Suppé studied law at the University of Padua before going to Vienna where he studied music and made his name as a composer and conductor of operetta. He produced large quantities of music in many forms, much of which has been forgotten. |
| Music from Suppés operettas is generally familiar through the overtures to Dichter und Bauer (Poet and Peasant), Die leichte Kavallerie (Light Cavalry), Die schöne Galatea (Fair Galatea) and Ein Morgen, ein Mittag und ein Abend in Wien (Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna). MIDI FILE - From "Jolly Robbers": Overture (8'18'') Boccaccio, considered to be his masterpiece, is the nearest he came to true opera. |
