Uttini was a pupil of padre Martini, of Perti and Sandoni.

He composed operas and oratorios in Italy until he joined the touring Mongotti operatic society as conductor and composer.

Encouraged by the Swedish queen Louisa Ulrica to visit Stockholm in 1755, where he composed a lot of pieces.

He was appointed Master of the King's Music in 1767; he retired in 1788: for many years he has been the main conductor of the Sweedish Opera.
