The parentage of the Brazilian composer Glauco Velasquez was carefully concealed during his life-time and in subsequent biographical notices.

He was, it seems, the illegitimate son of a notable singer in Rio de Janeiro and a woman of good family, who took refuge in Naples for the birth of her son and later "adopted" him, when he was brought back to Brazil.
