| Vladimir Vlasov is primarily a composer of operas and ballets, but he has also produced a number of chamber works. Vlasov studied violin at the Moscow Conservatoire, under the instruction of Yampolsky, Kogans teacher. He went to Kirghizia in 1936 where he was founder and artistic director of the Kirghizia State Opera and Ballet Theatre. Returning to Moscow in 1942 to be artistic director of the Moscow Philharmonic. Vlasov is representative of an interesting group within Soviet Music: he is an example, along with composers such as Liadov, of a composer whose conventional training is coupled with a strong interest in the music of one of the lesser known republics.
