Gilles de Bins Binchois Life

In a period when Franco-Flemish composers were of the greatest importance, Binchois was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the greatest composers of his age, together with the French composer Dufay and the English composer Dunstable.

Binchois joined the court of the Duke of Burgundy who had the most lavish private musical establishment in Europe at that time.

His setting of the Te Deum, the earliest polyphonic setting to survive, was particularly well known, with a series of vocal compositions both sacred and secular.
