Max Bruch was born in Cologne where he studied music. He held various posts as a teacher, conductor and composer and for a few years was conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Society. His choral compositions were often performed during his lifetime, but he is best remembered for his pieces for violin and orchestra. |
| By far the best known of all Bruch's works must be the Violin Concerto, Op. 26, to which the "Scottish Fantasy" for solo violin and orchestra is a relatively modest pendant.
