Cazzati was Italian composer and organist; during his term as Maestro di cappella at San Petronio, Bologna (1657 71), he made significant contributions to the development of instrumental music, especially in the unique repertory of music for trumpet and strings. Cazzatis conspicuous absence from the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna, founded in 1666, suggest that the quarrel affected th entire Bolognese musical community. He went to Mantua, where he continued his publishing activities and served the Gonzaga as maestro di cappella until his death in 1677. |
| Although instrumental music forms only a relatively small part of his output of 66 published volumes, it is in this genre that he made his most influential contribution. He wrote instrumental, sacred and secular music: Canzoni, Balletti, Sonate, Caprici da camera e da chiesa, Salmi, Messe, Motetti, etc. |
