| Gherardello da Firenze (born ca. 1320-1325, died 1362 or 3) is known to music history for sixteen surviving secular works, all of which survive in the Squarcialupi Codex (some of the pieces have concordances in other sources as well), a Gloria, and an Agnus Dei. Six of the works are monophonic ballate; in addition there are nine two-voiced madrigals, and a three-voiced caccia, Tosto che l'alba, which in the Squarcialupi Codex boasts an illumination though to depict the composer. |
