| The most important 16th-century Spanish composer of sacred music after Victoria, he published 18 masses and ca 150 motets; because of their singable, diatonic lines, they remained in use in Spanish and Spanish-American cathedrals for more than two centuries after his death. He also published secular songs; many other works survive in anthologies and Masses. His brother Pedro (Born Seville, ca 1520), his first teacher, was also a composer.
