| Born Gloucester, 28 Aug 1890; died Dartford, 26 Dec 1937, English composer and poet. He studied with Stanford and Vaughan Williams at the RCM, before and after war service during which he was wounded, gassed and shell-shocked.Between 1919 and 1922 he composed intensively, especially songs in a flowing, sensuous style more influenced by Parry and German lieder than by the folksong movement. His later years were spent in mental hospitals.
