In 1722, after short stints as tenor with the Hamburg and Brunswick operas, Hasse traveled to Naples where he studied with Porpora and A. Scarlatti. Nine years later (1731) Hasse was appointed to the court of Poland and the electoral court of Saxony. Beginning in 1734 he served off and on as the director of the Dresden opera. From 1764, he lived in Vienna. - MIDI FILE From Sonata op. 5 n. 5 for Violin and b.c.: Adagio (157) |
Hasse composed operas, cantatas, Masses, oratorios, Psalms, and instrumental works (sonatas, concertos, and chamber music). Hasse is mentioned in a letter (1775) from Carl Philip Emanuel Bach to Forkel as one whose works his father had especially valued in his later years. |
