| A more prolific composer than his elder brother Alessandro Marcello, Benedetto wrote stage works, church, secular vocal and instrumental music. In his book "Il teatro alla moda", published around 1720, Marcello gives a satirical account of contemporary operatic practice. |
Benedetto Marcello's compositions include a set of twelve concerti for strings, as well as sets of sonatas for one and two cellos. His best known work is Estro poetico-armonico, a monumental work in eight volumes. |
