| Born Whitland, 1 Nov 1934; died Anglesey, 29 July 1992, Welsh composer. He studied with Berkeley at the RAM and from 1959 taught at University College, Bangor. His music draws on Bartók, Hindemith, Stravinsky and Tippett: the style is essentially tonal and his preference for standard multi-movement forms allows for lyrical and dynamic expression. He wrote much choral music, besides concertos (three for piano), chamber music (two string quartets, 1968, 1982), and the opera "The Servants" (1980).
