| Born Taunton, ca 1590; died London, bur. 10 April 1661, English composer. From 1608 he was resident musician at Thorndon Hall, Essex, with the Petre family, Byrd's patrons.In 1631 he moved to London. He was a leading composer of consort music; some 40 pieces, including 30 fantasias, survive.
