Jacopo Peri ("Zazzerino") was an Italian composer, singer and instrumentalist. His most significant contribution was his development of the dramatic recitative for musical theatre. His most characteristic example of this style are found in "Euridice", the earliest opera for which complete music has survived. Giulio Caccini and Emilio de' Cavalieri were Peri's musical rivals. Peri wrote more than 20 operas, a lot of songs and instrumental music. |
