Julius Reubke Life

Born Hausneindorf, 23 March 1834; died Pillnitz, 3 June 1858, German composer, pianist and organist.

He studied the piano with Kullak at the Berlin Conservatory, then in 1856 went to Weimar where he became one of Liszt's favourite pupils.

His strikingly advanced Piano Sonata in B Flat; minor and programmatic Organ Sonata in C minor (1857) are masterpieces of the German Romantic style and show him to have been a promising composer.

His brother Otto (1842-1913) was an admired organist, pianist, conductor and composer in Halle.
