| Weyse was born in Nothern Germany and came to Denmark in 1789. Here he joined the circle of German speaking composers who lived and worked in Copenhagen. Weyse continued the Viennese classical tradition that had been introduced into Denmark by J.A.P. Schulz and F.L.A. Kunzen. Though best known for his vocal music he was also one of the leading pianists of his time, and his symphonies from the 1790s and piano works reveal him as an imaginative composer.
