Renowned Venetian violinist and prolific composer, Albinoni produced more than 50 operas (Rodrigo in Algeri, 1702) most of which were staged in Venice and secular instrumental works (Adagio for Organ and Strings).

Most of Albinoni’s operas have been lost, but a few arias from them remain.

The set of twelve for strings, Op. 5, the twelve Oboe Concertos, Op. 7, the set of a dozen varied concertos, Op. 9 and the Violin Concertos, Op. 10, are notable.

The popular "Adagio in G minor" was arranged, or rather reconstructed, for organ and strings by the 20th century Italian musicologist, Remo Giazotto, from a six-bar fragment of music by Albinoni.
